Wanted: Portable antenna.
Wanted: Portable antenna.
I'm looking for a quick to erect, 50 - 100watt capable HF Antenna. It must cover 40 & preferably 80 meters.
I normally use a long wire & balun for portable operation, but I have now been asked to start a school, lunch time, radio club & time is very short, so I'm looking for a very simple to erect & set up portable antenna.
If anyone has anything suitable laying around unused that they would sell to me, or know someone who has, then I would very much appreciate it, as I am currently unable to find anything.

Just took delivery here of a Sandpipr V5+3, and works well. When googled it throws up some other used ones for sale also? Maybe an idea

Re: Wanted: Portable antenna.
I have looked at that & I'm not sure that it is really any easier than my long wire.....How quickly can it be erected ? I will have around one & a half hours to erect, use & dismantle the antenna & everything else & I want & I want well over 1 hour 15 minutes of that to be used working & I have to get everything in & out of the car in that time also, plus a second radio (VHF) to assemble in that time.

Re: Wanted: Portable antenna.
Also I'm not sure that it will be rugged enough to take the kind of use it will get, which at £170 + p & p new, is a lot of money for a few hours use.
This antenna is going to be assembled & dismantled every week, it must be small enough to fit in the car with ease, easy to move in & out of the school & quick to set up & still be rugged enough for real portable operation, not something that will start to give problems after a few weeks of being assembled & dismantled every time it is used.

Re: Wanted: Portable antenna.
saw some online 50£ +p+p thats why commented.
Just bought one here with Wimo and it is indeed well made, easy to take apart and does all the bands that it is rumoured for, and at the moment with no counterpoise it is blasting all around

Re: Wanted: Portable antenna.
Problem solved.
The school has offered a £1000 budget for equipment & a permanent base will be made available, so a permanent antenna for VHF & HF are now not my problem....
