Yaesu ATAS 120 Automatic Antenna System

Post by 2W0PWR on Wed Feb 20, 2008 9:36 pm

Has anyone come across this antenna before? Are there any good reports for it? It's about £220.00 - £250.00 so is it realy worth the money?

I personally like single band mobiles, but have heard good things about the Atas antennas on HF, but their effectiveness on 6 & above is VERY limited, but then again it will be on any HF & above antenna. Also don't forget that there are other screwdriver antennas out there.
If you want a multi band antenna & don't mind getting out to change band, then there are better performing options out there that cost a lot less.

Looks a very interesting mod. I decided a few months to go down the route of a Atas as I bought a FT-857D and I am quite impressed with it. I will say it needs a good earth and look after it. I don't leave mine out on the car and try not to use it if it's wet... That might be why I don't work HF much :-) but with a little TLC it should last.

I admit there are some nice mobile multi band antennas and the one I like which covers 80m is alot of money... so that's why I chose the Atas. I'll have to sort something out for 80m as I miss the band.

Moonraker....I must wash my mouth out with some disenfectant....Do a very nice high Q 80 meter antenna. which despite being high Q covers a small chunk of 80 meter phone, but it does work well.
