Video of the month

Post by 2W0PWR on Tue Oct 30, 2007 11:13 am

As I have not made any video's this month nor have I received any I looked on YouTube for something interesting and yet something to do with radio...
This astronaut is talking to a school in the US on the 2m band... 145.800.

I hope you like it and enjoy. Maybe one day it will be me talking to them in space just like this man from the Isle Of Man-

Matty Cunningham spoke to billionaire Charles Simonyi, who paid $25m to go into space as a tourist.
Mr Simonyi has been active in making contact with hams since arriving at the space station and had already spoken to some in Hawaii.
Mr Cunnigham said he was "really chuffed" to get through and would be trying again in the near future.
He calculated what time the station would be over the island in its orbit before trying to make the call on his computerised equipment.
But Mr Cunningham said despite this preparation it can still be hit and miss.
Repeat contact
"It all depends on whether someone is listening, if they have the time or if they want to answer," he said.
"I knew Mr Simonyi had made contact with radio hams in Hawaii so I thought I'd give it a go - I was really chuffed to get through and get a reply."
It is not the first time the Manx audio engineer has had a conversation with someone orbiting the earth.
In December he also made contact with a German astronaut onboard the space station.
There is an open channel that licensed radio hams can use to hail the station.
A schools project is also currently running which allows students to speak to staff on the station.
Mr Cunnigham said: "It's great fun and I'll definitely be trying it again in the future."

Whilst searching You Tube for a video to match the forum this month I came across this one. I thought it's ideal now as we have a new page on How to solder.
