Coax question ?

Post by Guest on Tue Oct 23, 2007 7:18 pm

Having moved my entire station to another part of the shack , I find the the coax lead fead line from the G5RV is about 3 foot too short.

I do have a couple of double female PL259 connectors, but should I re-new the entire Coax lead or will making a new short patch lead and linking them up through the double female PL plug be OK ?

Making a short patch lead with a double connector will work fine. But here is the BUT you will loose power for every connection even an SWR meter in-line!!!
Could be quite costly to replace the whole lot so I would use a patch lead and make sure the SWR is ok as you are making the coax longer...
(see if that works) Neutral

Hope you understand Eddie.

Yep certainly does, was wondering about the loss factor, but considering the linear can do up to 600 watts SSB will mke up for it lol Very Happy

Maybe a bit late in adding this but, for general advice in the future, I find it's always best to renew the whole run when needed.

At frequencies up to 30MHz, a 3 foot length of coaxial cable and a couple of extra connectors, plus a male/male or female/female adapter, is not going to make any noticeable difference to the transmitted or received signals.
Unless the connectors are badly fitted, of course.
