Just ordered a Wouxun 2/70

Post by 2W0PWR on Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:16 pm

Hi lads,

After a couple of months being away from the radio I have decided to purchase a new one for the new year. I have just ordered the above radio, not sure if it had something to do with the alcohol or something :-).

I have decided to go for this as I only find time to play when in the works Van so I have decided to go for something small and easy to remove. Just hope its the rite choice.

Anyone got any experience with this radio?

Regards,

Dave
P.S. Happy New Year

I have the 4m 699-E and it is a wee cracker, I have a Puxing 888 VHF and UHF ( great wee radios) but the Wooshin feels a bit more quality plus I dropped it off a trig point onto the concrete base, a wee dent and it still worked, man, ah was near in tears....I use a speaker mike with my chinese handies, best if its cold.

We have several Puxings & they get a lot of use, my daughters get dragged to & from School, mine get bumped about in the rucksack & used by the guys at the School Radio club & they still look good.
On one trip up the highest Church tower in Norfolk I took my handies & as the town is below a ridge I decided if I could get into the local repeater on the Yaesu VX-7r with £30 high gain whip, I could Very Happy Then someone said I was hammering into a local town on the input & could I try it on the standard antenna. Being lazy I simply swapped to the Puxing & the signal strength was the same, but on the Puxing the CTCSS was not audible.
These radios have great antennas & make a nice little PMR & Marine band scanner as well as an excellent amateur radio.

I first tried my Puxing on a local high spot and got 55 into Edinburgh, not bad for app 70ml away, I was just under 1000 ft, most of my SOTA 2m fm activations are with the Puxing, never a query about audio although I had to 'do' the mod, worth every penny..got a free earpiece which I still occasionally use although prefer to use the speaker mike
