Running a Sirio 827 mobile

They're phone lines and are actually a long way away right on the other side of the road, now if I went for a drive that would be a different matter

Following several raids a friend of mine, now sadly SK, tried to run 48 meters mobile using a quarter wave vertical, he found it was OK for around 100 yards & then things like overhanging trees, wires etc etc got in the way.

It only takes around 10 minutes to set-up via the roof window in the van. I don't think I'd get much sleep on a windy night though and I'm not sure the brackets would hold, they're only glued onto the roof with no-nails.

I wish I had got a photo of my mates car. He welded a bracket onto the front of the car & then used a lengthened CB antenna that he had removed the coil from. He truly did try his mobile as a method of avoiding yet another raid. But at around 10 meters tall (quarter wave at 48 meters, less the velocity factor) It was jut not workable.
