Superstar 3900
There are many versions of this one around, and include the CRT that has the 10kc shift on a switch and also the non, older versions.
I have here 2, 1 is non tuned and the other is a tuned one that is sold in the UK by Fusion. Not name dropping, just they sell them. If you can hear it then you can speak with it! Yes the design and the technic is not the newest but is old and guess well tested.
I like mine, not recommend it but it does sound well with the Astatic mike connected to it
Radio is private and personal, so should be treated individually

Re: Superstar 3900
I had a standard one about 4 years ago but didn't like it.
The freq were all messed up... What made it worse was -
It had NO F counter (a must for me)!!!
I like the modulation on it and it was well built. Just not for me!!!

Re: Superstar 3900
I have one still and i have had some great DX on it and had some real good audio reports from
just the standard mike that comes with it.
The only problem i found with it was that it drifted in and out of frequency by 1 or 2 kc's

I have the red display version with an external frequency counter, Never had any problems with it! Its on frequency, the modulation is second to none and it really does get out better than any other radio i have used on midblock and always get good reports back.
I would definetly suggest ditching the standard mic for a more up-market one, especially for SSB use!
I have heard bad things about the new versions of this radio, poorly put together, loose or non-connected wires etc etc so i would think twice before buying a EFT version.
Not sure of the build quality of the black version but it really does look appealing!

3900EFT was not the best one, although seems there are some newer ones now with the some of the mistakes done. Saying that, mine worked well
