QSOUK Newsletter Nov 09

Post by 2W0PWR on Sat Nov 07, 2009 12:23 pm

Hi Everyone,

It’s been 6 months or so since I sent a newsletter out to everyone and in them last 6 months we have had more than 100 new members. Wow thats fantastic news for QSOUK and I’d like to welcome you all to the Radio Forum.

QSOUK has now made the Photo Gallery even bigger to store more of you’re favorite pictures. I’d like to remind you all that you can if you want create you’re own Gallery for the picture’s you’d like to share, or if you just want to share a picture in a forum you can use the Host button to upload it and then insert it into the forum.

The Chat Room is being underused and I’d love to see more activity in it. Maybe people could use it to discuss DX outings with friends / members of the forum and be able to meet on the band.

Profile...
A few months ago I spent a while upgrading the forum and adding more information for members to inset into the profile like the Call Sign or what equipment you have. Please feel free to insert you're details if you wish.

RSGB Club Calls Contest (CCC)
I’d like to remind everyone who are members of local radio clubs that the RSGB Club Calls Contest (CCC) is next week on the 14th November and starts at 20:00 - 23:00UTC and the exchange is Signal Report, Serial Number and Club info.

The unique aspect of CCC is that part of the exchange is the name of your club (assuming you are a member of one). In the past it has been apparent that some less skilled ops have either not given the name of their club exactly the same way for every QSO or have given it wrongly, making it appear that there are multiple clubs with similar names, for example Shillingbury Radio Society or Shillingbury Radio Club. It could be a good idea for the co-ordinators of a club entry to give each operator a briefing and a card printed with the exact wording that should be given, because the adjudicator, Rob, G4LMW, is going to check them carefully.

Take Care...
As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, colder they become dangerous for every aspect of the radio hobby that we all enjoy and share. The SOTA guys doing summits on the air to the guys working mobile on all the bands we all have to be carful and sensible this winter...

Sad to say...
We recently had a member join the forum and was instantly banned for 7 days as he had an abusive name so we wanted to take the precaution before any wrong doing could be done. As of now he has not changed the profile and if it’s not been done within the 7 days I will have no option but to ban his IP address for the protection of the forum.

This brings a new problem to the forum which will need addressing at some time. Maybe only authorize members with validated call signs both for Ham and as best as we can for those who operate 11m or maybe just allowing some sort of member by request scheme by friends / members of the forum. So any idea’s regarding the above would be well appreciated.

Wanted...
We also require one more moderator so if anyone is interested then please contact myself...

Ideas...
May I remind all the members that we are open to ideas to make theforum bigger and better for everyone, If you have any ideas or suggestions however big or small then please get in touch!

Wish you all the very best,

QSOUK
The forum for all!!!
