lol Andy, I need a face plate for my FT-857. Tonight I fitted the two leads you made me on Sunday into the car. Just need to fit a constant power supply to the boot now for the radio before I can test everything :-(...

If you have a flat surface on the dash you can use a strip of Velcro. Put the hook part on the dash and then its easy when you remove it to put the head into your pocket, and it doesnt pick up any bits or grab any threads. Cheaper than the bracket, and mine has been no problem since I fitted it in my works van.

Yaesu FT-857D mount

Post by 2W0PWR on Sun Nov 08, 2009 9:15 pm

I decided to buy the FT-857 face-plate for the head of my unit so it can be fitted into my car. I was thinking about velcro with M3 stuff like Andy 2E0ZMO but with the separation cable at the rear of the unit I thought it would be tricky...

I rang a few of the larger shops and they said the face-plate is only available as part of a kit so I made a few phone calls and found myself speaking to Yeasu-UK Parts section where they were very helpful.

I am a big fan of drink holders for both handies & where you have a wire out of the back of something small like the above.
With the wire out of the back, fit a flat plate covered with velcro & with a hole in the middle to the front of the holder.

With the Nissan Almera there is a carrier bag hook that folds away into the passenger side of the footwell where I have the mic cable coming from. They are really handy...

I hacked part of my dash a few years ago to fit the Ranger 2950 in and I wish I hadn't now but I am lucky that the bit I cut slots out so when I get chance I should be able to replace it at the local scrap yard :-)
