I love QRP, normally run at less than 2.5 watts SSB.

Normal maximum power is.

But if radio wave can bounce off the &quot;I forgot what it's called&quot;-sphere. And can originate and travel all over the world. Then how on earth (pun intended) does the FCC find and give citations to people that are using HAM radios illegally or are not complying with HAM radio rules?

<description>I am just getting into ham radio and I am hoping to get my general class

license soon. I am aiming to get an HF transceiver that is priced low

(under &#36;800), but is also good quality. If possible VHF/UHF capabilities

would be appreciated but not necessary. My top two preferred brands

would be Icom or Yaesu, but if there are other high quality decent

priced brands, then I would be happy to look into those.

Results look good, the beacon in the south of Holland was S9+ on the FT817 and spinning the beam round, I could get the signal to drop considerably.

There isnt much 2M activity in my part of Holland, well when I'm listening anyway but with the antenna indoors, I'm able to open up the Zandaam and Amsterdam repeater with approx 5watts.

<description>There is a new &amp; rather expensive toy here in the shack, as I have just spend a reasonable chunk of cash on a new MFJ 933 loop tuner. First impressions are fair.

It seems to tune up on 20 meters OK with 13 feet of wire thrown around the bed, but as yet no replies to CQ calls using the 817.

The 4 foot of wire claimed to be required on 10 meters does not seem to give a good result, (SWR is 2:1) but as I am upstairs maybe the ground effect is needed to get that working.

Barry Williams, 46, from Sheringham, believes he could have set a new world record after managing to pick up a signal from Australia using a portable radio backpack.

Mr Williams often uses Beeston Hill in Sheringham as a point to send out and receive radio signals - mostly from fellow enthusiasts in Europe.
