Hi everyone, I've been interested in radio since as a teenager, I discovered that I could talk to my friends on FM using a simple home-brew transmitter and a PP3 battery, rather than powering the calculator.... and it was much more fun too! Well over the years I've monitored and scanned a lot of stuff; the early un-encripted mobiles were a real blast! I had a CB in my car from the mid-80's to mid-90's when commuting daily from Kent to London daily and was part of the "Two-Seven Breakers" (an early version of TrafficMate on CB), also great fun. I've played around with PMR and am thinking of setting...

Hello from East Dorset. Licensed since May 1983 but then let it lapsed. Briefly went 70cms in '96 but again let it lapsed. Looking to get back on mainly 10m for now but would like to get back to low power CW.

I know the hobby has changed a huge amount. I used to love building powerful PSUs from old computer power supplies but those days have gone I suppose.

    Looking forward to a chat.

Have been looking at some new cb sets with the multi stuff, is it worth getting one, or should I just stick to the uk 40?

What do you all think of the new cept for Oct, will it be implemented in the UK?

BTW I'm in deepest darkest south Shropshire, havn't got a cb handle (might think of one oneday

    Hello everyone.
I'm a long time CB'er, not active for a number of years, but hoping to dust off a few of my radios and get active. Also looking for a general purpose handheld scanner to take with us on our journeys around the UK. Seriously thinking it's time to get to grips with the RSGB tests.... (Do I really have time though in my retirement years?)
A great site by the way that I hope to spend time on.
Hope to hear you on air soon.

Hello my names Daniel from Grimsby. I have just joined this group because i want to learn about this hobby.
I have a scanner and a Hf set which i use for monitoring air traffic but am becoming increasingly interested in the ham side of the hobby. I would like to join my local club however unfortunately i work when they meet. I hope this wont hamper my taking the foundation licence if i decide too.
Quick question. What sort of frequencies are best to listen to to hear some chatter? I've tried listening into the local cb frequencies but hear very little.
    Cheers Daniel

I have been a short wave listener for 40+ years and in May passed the Foundation and passed the Intermediate in July.
I have been interested in radio and electronics from the age of 11, having been introduced to radio by my Grandfather who worked at the GEC in Coventry.

I joined the forum today. A little about me... I was last interested in amateur radio during the mid sixties to early seventies. Then I used a CR100, 2 19 set's and a 52 set and various home constructed kit. I also had the use of a huge garden. I became re interested last year, took my foundation exam at the end of the year and intermediate earlier this year. Now using an Alinco DX-77 and a Yaesu FT-1802. My back garden is so small it's difficult to decide what HF antenna's will be the best long term. I'm currently setting up as required a vertical on a tripod and wire antenna's wrapped around...

    Hi folks.

My name is Neil and the callsign is 2E0 TDX.

I live in Cheshire and have been active on the amateur bands for about 3 years, so I'm still learning!

I'm not very active on H.F. due to the planning Demi Gods making me take most of the antennas down....but play on V.H.F. from home and the odd dabble on lower frequencies from the mobile.

I've recently taken up hillwalking and activating summits for Sota, so maybe I'll catch up with some of you from a hill somewhere!
    Regards, Neil.

Hi to you all, I have being interested in radio since I was about 12, listening to the marine band on an old Eddystone with a length of bell wire strung around the picture rail. In the early eighties I got hooked on CB radio firstly on AM, then FM. My interest in radio wained until about 7 years ago when I joined Horsham Amateur radio club and Took and passed my exams. My station includes an Icom IC-7400 and various Yaesu hand helds. I look forward to chatting to you all 73 Ian

    Greetings to all (and sundry)
Its nice to be back with you after such a long stay away. What with living on a boat running an antique shop and then taking a round trip of the good old GB in a motor caravan.
C.B seems to have had to take a very low place on the agenda .But the spark was still there , so during a session of "site hopping" I found QSO Forums
    So here I am
Just as soon as I get up and running with a rig i,ll be back.
In the mean time beseeing you all
    Best of regards berjay
