Old Homebases

Just bought a York 869 Homebase - inspired by Simon 007 again

I'm hoping it's a good one and, if all is well, will be looking to get the EU block added.

I take it that is uses the Cybernet chassis as per the 863 and 861 etc.?

My Murphy Homebase is looking good after a good clean-up, plus a respray of the case and a few squirts of contact cleaner have returned it to full working order. The built-in SWR meter is excellent and I wonder why more homebase rigs didn't have them.

On air the rig sounds superb linked to a new KPO NM-531 mic.

The only downside is the mains hum that is audible on low volume RX from the built-in PSU, which I'm told is due to inadequate shielding around the transformer - I may take it apart and see if I can fashion some extra shielding.

Oh, and the squelch has quite a pop to it - from memory, I can expect the same thing from a York.

I'll try to upload some photos of the old homebases when I get a chance.

The photos sound like a great idea. I'd like to see some! I had an old 40 channel homebase CB when I was 14 and that is how the hobby started for me. When the name comes to me I'll tell you what it was.

Yes, uses the cybernet board and takes the mid-block nicely. Will add some video of mine to you tube when there are conditions. Maybe you will hear it, listen out for a weird sort of bleep then you know what it is.

Yes my Mrs. was angry when the York 869 turned up today, but I'm Ok because I told her Simon the Wizard told me to buy it

The radio is in pretty good order - the Delta-tune switch was loose and the cover needs a respray. For some reason the two wooden end-caps are missing. I took the cover plus front panel off and the Delta-tune was an easy fix (just the nut was loose) - good news is the inside is as it left the factory.

The RX quality is superb and it's TX'ing Ok, but I will put my Astatic on it to give it some more punch.

After a clean and tidy, I'll be looking to put the mid-block on it somehow.

Found that my Cobra M-75 mic works very well with both - with the York it really is BBC quality though.

@Simon: The York 869 looks like the Stabo XF4000/XF4012 here in germany. Made by Cybernet too. If the used the same board, it's a fine rig! Do you know if they are nearly identical?

Hi Ralf, yes indeed they are almost the same. Albrecht had a version also am told. York cannot be the same as Stabo, as Stabo was more Uniden inspired, however in the UK there is the Uniden 300, this is a 40 channel homebase, where as over here we call them the PT1000 Uniden.

Hans added a 5 tone bleep to one here, it was sent back to the UK and now it has reurned, so the York 869, same as Harrier CBHQ now has 80 channels and the most sexy sounding 5 tone, oh man.

Indeed, Albrecht's first CB Radios which were sold in GER were also produced by Cybernet. Like the old ALPHA 4000 40FM Radio. You can easy see it by the black S-Meter. It was a fantastic radio!
The YORK looks nearly like the Stabo XF 2000/4000 series which were also built by Cybernet. The "newer" 5000 series were built by Uniden. The quality was very good, too. But the newest Stabo series are now build by Maycom. The are sometimes a piece of shi...! The quality is not as stable as the Uniden or Cybernet series.

Indeed, the Stabo 7082 is indeed a Maycom EM27 that also was the Allamat 296, President Harrison when add the ASC, Super Jopix and also Megajet in Russia. Same fatory, different end name thats all.

Alfa 4000 thats the daddy. Also same radio was called a Binatone 5 Star, York JCB863, Rotel RVC240 and some others also. The exact same Cybernet Board, again with a different name for a different market place.

Uniden are now not so keen on CB it seems, the odd President here and there, that is about it.Stick to the older ones, when it is Uniden inside then you know it will be fine and dandy.

Whisky and radio...ooh that can't go down too well. Good pics though. Radio sounded well to me

Had a good QSO with an operator about 30 miles away on the Harrier today and reports were very good on both the UK and EU blocks.

The whisky was by request and only a Xmas tipple for me really

Nice radio's there gary. Did you get them all from eBay? Are they all mint condition? btw have you tried the" Belle-Vue Kriek" beer whith a hint of cherrry? they sell it on draught at my local Look forward to our next qso 73's Paul 26TM901 M6PDM

All from eBay - prices from memory York £28, Harvard £20, Murphy £18 and Harrier £49. The York, Harvard and Murphy needed a really good clean, some switch cleaner spray and a respray of the case.

I'll try the beer with cherry if I see it on tap - perhaps take a photo of a pint next to one of your radios!

The Murphy has now been installed in the back of my van for static mobile use - I'll try to get the mid block added soon.





A President Harry II is installed between the front seats for mobile use.
